Jimmy Newland's Fly Boxes

Unique fly boxes that are the perfect gift for that fishing friend.  Each box has a hand carved trout in the inset, ripple foam and flat combo inside boxes.  Michigan woods like Fiddleback Maple, Cherry Burl, Red Cedar, Black Walnut Burl, and Birdseye Maple.  Boxes come in two sizes.  The medium box is 3 1/2 x 5 3/4, small size is 3 x 4 1/2.

$85 Post Paid for either size.

Leader Tying Kits

It's no secret you can always tie a better leader than you can buy.  Winter work for sure.  Pretty good basic book on leaders and knots, with plenty of formulas to get you off and running.

Umpqua leader kit with book, & bags $55 Post Paid

Old school Maxima kit, with spool bands, bags and book.  $75 Post Paid

You'll also wish you had the tippet gauge below....

Some packs out there present the image that one has to wear his hat sideways, and have at least two earrings, not necessarily hanging from the ears.

Saw this one at the show this fall and knew it would fit right in here on the Au Sable.  The William Joseph Old School Series "Satchel" is hard core canvas with just enough room for enough gear one would need any afternoon or evening on the river. Leave that thirty pound vest in the car and lighten the load.

The Old School "Satchel" $85 Post Paid

Another in the Old School line that kids would more than likely scoff at.  The "Chest Pack" has enough room for tippets and a couple fly boxes.

Then there is the leather trim on this unit which says it'll be around for years to come.

Padded ergo neck strap so you feel like nothing is there.

"The Old School  "Chest Pack" $65 Post Paid

William Joseph "Mag Series"

This one caught my eye as well.  Nothing to unzip to get into the pack.  Slight pull on the front panel and you have a working station.

Will hold a couple decent sized fly boxes, plus leaders tippet material and the right stuff one actually has to take on stream.

Ergo designed strap as well.

"The Current"  $95 Post Paid

This one... just because it is the simplistic of all the packs.   Really hold two or three smaller boxes, which is perfect for most of our mid summer fishing.

Slight tug on the front and your in business, as the magnet releases.

Lighten up that load to hit the morning rise.

"The Amp"  $75 Post Paid

Hardy Perfect

Perhaps no other fly reel has been passed down from generation to generation since its inception in 1890.  The distinct round agate line guard, and fifteen ball-bearings make this one of the smoothest reels ever produced.  Gunmetal gray anodized finish, over a fully machined frame.  These reels smell of trout right out of the box.  They will be dribbling in all winter as production is limited.  Available in both right or left hand wind.  Made in England.

2  5/8" for lines #1-#3   $850

2 7/8" for lines #3-#4   $900

3 1/8" for lines #5-#6   $950

The " Au Sable Tippet Gauge", a Gates Au Sable Lodge exclusive.

One look at this thing, and folks might say..."What do I need that for?"  Well let's just say, we see and repair more leaders with tippet configurations that can only be described as cluster $@^%'s.   Machine extruded leaders with 6x tied directly to 3x...and the guy wonders why it won't roll over.  Rebuilt tippet sections.... 4x.....6x.....then 4x again.....again... won't roll over.

As anglers we spend serious time building our own leaders. Custom. Can always tie a better leader than you can buy off the rack.  Just takes a few minutes time.  One good movie with a tying box in front of me and I'll have a months worth of leaders for the vest.

It all starts with knowing what diameters you are putting together.  As a kid, I would watch the older knowledgeable fisher folks come in and mic out the materials on the wall before they bought it.  Just to be sure.  Nothing worse than tying on two sections of 4x tippet.....

I always looked for these dial indicators in catalogs.  Sears tool sections etc, etc.  Finally got old enough to realize couldn't afford one.  They all listed for over $100.  I'd just have to trust the markings on the spools, or suffer through the plastic peck and hunt sizing wheel units out on the market.

We've made this available at an affordable price.  We can only do this because we are the importer.  No three middle men taking a bite off it before it hit's the shelve.  Comes in a hard plastic foam lined case, and a laminated tippet diameter conversion card.

$49.95...plus some UPS shipping charges.  In stock.
